3rd 155s & M-4-12 REUNION NEWSLETTER # 3NtTEWSLETlllllnnTER #6 OVEMBER NEWSLETTER # 3 SUMMER 2006REUNION 2K6
The 6th annual reunion was held at the Four Queens Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas from September 17th through the 21st. It was deemed a success by those in attendance. Highlights included a group luncheon at Hennessey's Tavern, raffle and auction, a group breakfast, screenings of CD's provided by Don BRENNAN (Reunion 2K5) and Ted BAHRY (3rd 155s at Camp HAGUE), a banquet dinner and dancing to the music of Honey HALL, with vocal support by Joe FABRIZIO, who still has " the pipes " after all these years. A post-dinner speech by this year's Guest Speaker (Ted BAHRY) was warmly received not only for its content but its brevity. Well done, Ted ! Attendees this year were : Ted BAHRY, Don and Pam BRENNAN, Paul and Alice CHRISTENSEN, George and Nancy CLEVELAND, Allan and Susan CRUZ, Ed and Lorraine DARMETKO, Joe FABRIZIO, Ted and Linda FINLEY, Don (Motor T) FOSTER, Larry and Debbie FRIEDRICH, Owen and Audrey GILLICK, Joe GODDARD, Matthew GRISSOM, Tom LOCH, Jack MARSTON, Bob and Charlene POROSTOVSKY, Gene TIMMONS, Ron WANSOR (and his better half, Jane BROADWAY), Stan ZANN and yours truly. Guests included Tom BROWN, Bill DUNAVAN, Bob GRISSOM, Honey HALL (with Dave NADEAU) plus Joel SCHUETTE, Jr. with wife Zuly. Last minute cancellations prevented the attendance of Bob and Leah ADAMS, along with Mike SHAVOR, each of whom was sorely missed ! Arrangements are under way for next year's reunion, which will be held in TUNICA, MISSISSIPPI during the month of September. Details will be provided in the initial newsletter to be sent by the Coordinator, PAUL CHRISTENSEN. Members who wish to serve as Assistant Coordinators should contact Paul ( 641-444-4431). The purpose of our group is to gather comrades - in - arms for reflections, story telling and great fun. Our group is open to Marines, friends of Marines and significant others. The more the merrier! Thus far, those attending have had experiences from WWII, through Korea and Vietnam to Iraq, and most everything in between. War time or peace time, we welcome all who served. If you know of anyone who may be interested in joining our group, please contact Paul or me. As so many of you have discovered, membership provides the opportunity to stay in touch and re-bond with old friends and to forge new relationships with former Marines whose common interests stem from service with the finest artillery units in the Corps. Our group is also unique in that its members possess a wide variety of Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) and are not limited to Occupational Field 08, alone. Indeed, there's a place for everyone under our umbrella ! At REUNION 2K6, Ted BAHRY provided members with a viewing and free copies of a DVD produced by his friend, Arno, a professional who spent 50 hours on the project, even dubbing in sound effects and musical score. Arno, who does a lot of work for Hollywood interests, put the DVD together from old 8MM film provided by Ted from his days at Camp Hague. Arno, who receives $ 12 just to duplicate a DVD let alone produce it, declined to accept a fee for his work. Ted's one request was for those receiving the DVD to call Arno and thank him for his generosity. To date, no one has made that call, for which we all should be ashamed. Arno's phone number is : (760) 434 - 7579. His web site is: www.bytheseaproductions.com, if you prefer to send an e-mail "atta boy". Either way, let's show some class and acknowledge this individual. If you desire a copy of this DVD, contact Ted at P.O. Box 756, Carlsbad, CA, 92018-0756. Our resident cinematographer provided the Association with 20 copies each of his DVD from REUNION 2K4/2K5. Don invested much time and effort, along with his narration, to produce these on-the-scene DVDs, not to mention over $800 for film and production expenses. He graciously waived any fee, and we wish to thank him again for his contributions. Anyone desiring copies of the DVDs should contact Paul. Cost per DVD is $ 20. PHOTO MEMORY BOOKS , REUNION 2K6 : Photo memory books can be purchased from Paul. Cost of each book is $ 30 (actual cost for production). Books are due out in a few weeks.REUNION 2K7 : Members are requested to provide old or new possessions for use as raffle prizes or auction items. Contributions are not mandatory and must be made on a voluntary basis. In the past, the Association has spent hundreds of dollars to purchase raffle/auction merchandise. The more donations we receive, the less we will need to spend. COORDINATOR'S SAYONARA : It has been my distinct pleasure to serve as the reunion coordinator the past three years. I want to commend those who served as assistant coordinators, without whose dedication no reunion can be successful. I know everyone will support Paul and his staff, and I believe that next year will be the biggest and best reunion of them all !
Sincerely, Joel Schuette
