HISTORY OF OUR ASSOCIATION
The 3rd155 Howitzer Battery and Mike Battery, 4th Battalion 12th Marine Regiment Artillery Association was organized in the spring of 2000 by a group of retired Marines who had served with both units in Okinawa during the early 1960's. The chief architect was LtCol Richard "Danny" Rodriguez, who spent countless hours locating former members of the units, establishing a unit roster and coordinating the first annual reunion. Our membership was expanded to include anyone who served with either unit at any time. Several Vietnam - era "Mike Rats" jumped aboard during 2001, and we had 20 members and 11 spouses at the first reunion in September, 2001. Our second reunion was conducted in September, 2002, with 28 members and 13 spouses in attendance. Both reunions were held at Fitzgerald's Casino and Holiday Inn in downtown Las Vegas, NV.
During 2003, our membership grew to 100 Leathernecks, and that year's reunion, as well as the one in 2004, was held at the Four Queens Hotel and Casino, also in downtown Las Vegas. More than 50 members and 25 spouses (or significant others) attended during the last two reunions.
We presently have 125 members on our roster, and we're always looking for a few more good men. Former Marines who served with either unit are eligible to join ranks with us.
